Poison is a debuff which deals damage over time based on the number of stacks applied, scaling exponentially in intensity with its stack count. When a poison tick occurs, the afflicted is dealt poison damage equal to the number of poison stacks, and then one poison stack is removed. Poison debuffs tick every 10 to 2 seconds for players (longer ticks achieved with higher poison stacks), or a fixed every two seconds for dungeon monsters and bosses.
When poison is first applied to an unpoisoned player, a minimum of 3 stacks are initially applied even if the poison source is trying to apply fewer than 3.
Poison stacks cannot exceed 10% of the afflicted's max health. Poison stacks also cannot exceed a hard limit of 750 stacks. When poison attempts to be applied beyond the maximum stack limit, the excess stacks are converted into immediate poison damage equal to the excess stacks.
